Welcome to 2020, everyone! We greatly appreciate your continued support and are excited to share an update regarding ADVANCE activities from the past few months.
NEWLY FUNDED ADVANCE PROJECTS
We are excited to share that we have two newly funded ADVANCE studies as follows:
- The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) funded Dr. Janne Boone-Heinonen’s PROMISE study: “PReventing Obesity through healthy Maternal gestational weight gain In the Safety nEt”! This is a 5-year R01 which seeks to utilize ADVANCE Weight Cohort analytic dataset to determine uniformity and causal impact of infant growth on obesity in low income children in US.
- The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH funded Drs. Doug Krakower & Julia Marcus’ “EHR-Based Prediction Models to Improve PrEP Use in Community Health Centers” (PrEP)! This project seeks to develop an EHR-based prediction tool to improve PrEP prescribing in order to decrease rates of new HIV infections in a national network of community health centers.
Congratulations to the investigators and study teams! As these projects kick off and move forward, we will share updates.
RECOGNIZING CERVICAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
We kicked off the new year with a special Grand Rounds presentation in honor of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. University of Miami (UM) Health System – HCN’s Dr. Erin Kobetz, and Dr. Jennifer Potter of Fenway Health presented: Cervical Cancer and HPV Screening in Special Populations. The presentation covered disparities in cervical cancer incidence and mortality within the US; barriers to routine screening across diverse patient populations including transmasculine individuals; an overview of participatory research endeavor between UM and Health Choice Network (HCN) to circumvent such barriers, increase screening uptake, and better meet HEDIS/UDS targets; and findings from a PCORI-funded study on the acceptability and performance of patient-centered screening via self-collection of a frontal (vaginal) swab for HPV DNA.
To receive a recording of the presentation, please email William Pinnock at pinnockw@ochin.org to join the Grand Rounds mailing list. You can also check out our new Grand Rounds page to learn more about our upcoming Grand Rounds events.
The EVERYWOMAN study team has published an update to the ADVANCE Blog titled “EVERYWOMAN: A Cervical Health Awareness Month Study Update.” EVERYWOMAN looks at differences in health care utilization and outcomes among women receiving care in community health centers (CHCs) before and after the Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare), and between Medicaid expansion and non-expansion states, and the blog post highlights some key findings related to cervical health.
