Welcome to July, everyone! June was another busy month for ADVANCE, especially for our engagement team.
OCHIN Research Associate, Nate Warren, Research Coordinator, Nikki Stover, and Patient Investigator, Deirdre Baker presented at the Institute for Patient and Family- Centered Care’s 8th International Conference. The theme was ‘Promoting Health Equity and Reducing Disparities’ and Nate, Deirdre and Nikki presented on the OCHIN/ADVANCE multi-level engagement model and how it has been applied to the work we are doing with our PPDA portfolio. We will get to hear more about the conference from Nate, Nikki, and Deirdre later this month in their upcoming blog post.
We also hosted our Patient Engagement Panel (PEP) meeting in June. Our tri-annual PEP meetings give us an opportunity to bring the PEP together for updates, trainings, and a chance to share a meal and get to know each other. We are now seeking new members to join the PEP! The PEP gives patients a way to actively use their experience to advise and guide decision makers, providers, and researchers in work to improve the kind of care we need and get. PEP members share their insights and suggestions on issues such as:
- The development of research topics and questions
- How changes to health care delivery impact patients
- How to share research findings with the general public
- How to encourage patients to take part in research
- How to improve health technologies to support care delivery and engage patients in their own care
The PEP is open to all patients who are willing to discuss their experiences, perspectives, and thoughts they relate to health research topics. You do not need to have experience serving as patient advisor or investigator to join the PEP.
If you or someone you know is interested in joining the PEP, please email our PEP Coordinators at PEP@ochin.org for more information.
June also treated us to a wonderful Grand Rounds presentation by Dr. Gary Bennett of Duke University titled: Digital Obesity Treatment Among Medically Vulnerable Patients. You can view the presentation here.
Dr. Bennett’s presentation marks the end of our second Grand Rounds series. We will begin our third series on September 21st with Dr. Sabrina Natoff-Stepp presenting on HRSA’s national strategy to address intimate partner violence. If you would like to join our Grand Rounds mailing list, please email us at grandrounds@ochin.org.
Finally, our ADVANCE Team continues to prepare for our year three ADVANCE retreat, which will be held on Monday, August 13 and Tuesday, August 14th. Please contact Nikki Stover at stovern@ochin.org if you have any questions about the event.
Thank you all for your continued involvement and support of ADVANCE. We look forward to another busy month ahead and sharing more in August!
Best,
Jon
