WHO WE ARE

Accelerating Data Value Across a National Community Health Center Network (ADVANCE) is a Clinical Research Network (CRN) that integrates electronic health record (EHR) and community data for underrepresented patients across the United States in order to strengthen inclusion of populations systemically underserved and underrepresented in research.

The ADVANCE Clinical Research Network (CRN) is led by OCHIN in partnership with Fenway Health, Health Choice Network (HCN), Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and the University of Washington (UW). The goal of ADVANCE is to build and maintain a network of community-based health care organizations to strengthen inclusion of populations that have been historically underserved and underrepresented in research.

The ADVANCE Data Warehouse maintains data on over 9 million patients and is the nation’s most comprehensive data set on community-based health care organizations and the populations they serve, including people who are publicly insured, uninsured, or underinsured. ADVANCE is one of eight large Clinical Research Networks (CRNs) in the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute’s (PCORI) distributed research network, called PCORnet®. The goal of PCORnet® is to create a national network of representative data for conducting clinical outcomes research.

It is the mission of OCHIN Research to improve the health of underserved populations, enhance quality of care, and inform health policy through research. Our studies examine interventions and delivery system improvements, especially those that focus on: understanding and addressing health conditions; improving health outcomes; evaluating interventions; testing health information technology interventions; and implementing evidence-based practices.

Health Choice Network (HCN)

Health Choice Network, Inc. is a successful nation-wide collaboration among health centers, health center controlled networks and partners. By providing key business services, strategic initiatives and the latest in health information technology, participants can improve patient outcomes through increased efficiencies and more accessible care.

Health Choice Network is a leader in implementing the electronic health record, oral health record and soon in behavioral health record. The new technology enables health care providers to document, communicate and track medical information, while patients benefit from faster service, reduced errors and safer transmission of information among labs, pharmacies, hospitals and physicians.

Fenway Health

Fenway Health is a national leader in providing LGBT-competent care to patients. A federally-qualified community health center with a mission to provide quality health care to LGBT people in New England, Fenway brings 45 years of experience providing quality care for LGBT populations. Located in the heart of Boston, Fenway serves a diverse group of about 30,000 primary care patients, nearly half of whom identify as LGBT, 10% percent of whom are HIV-infected, and 30% of whom are racial and ethnic minorities.

Oregon Health and Science University: Department of Family Medicine

Oregon Health & Science University is the state’s only academic health center. It provides an uncommon array of services from providing the state’s most comprehensive health care, to educating the next generation of clinicians and biomedical researchers, to achieving breakthroughs and innovations.

The Department of Family Medicine has made it their mission to serve patients and communities through excellence in clinical care, education, research, and leadership in Family Medicine.

University of Washington (UW)

The University of Washington (UW) health system, UW Medicine, is an integrated clinical, research and learning health system with a single mission to improve the health of the public serving the Puget Sound and surrounding region. Among its renowned facilities are UW Medical Center, encompassing both Montlake and Northwest campuses, alongside Harborview Medical Center, the sole Level I trauma and burn center serving Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho.

UW Medicine also houses several advanced research serving entities including the Institute for Translational Health Sciences and the UW Institute for Medical Data Science. In addition to expanding geographic coverage of the ADVANCE CRN to this region, UW Medicine aims to provide equitable access to high-quality care for diverse patient populations, including American Indian, Alaska Native, and Asian communities.

The ADVANCE Clinical Research Network (CRN) is led by OCHIN in partnership with Fenway Health, Health Choice Network (HCN), Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and the University of Washington (UW). The goal of ADVANCE is to build and maintain a network of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs)- community-based health care organizations- to strengthen inclusion of populations that have been systemically underserved and underrepresented in research. ADVANCE adds value to health equity initiatives and health equity research by curating data sets for researchers.
